Paying forward. It’s a phrase initiated by Woody Hayes and put into practice by Buckeyes everywhere. It’s also what Bill and Susan Lhota did with their generous support of alumni in all stages of their careers. Both were active at Ohio State — and Bill had served on the alumni association board of directors — when they made a lasting commitment to help their fellow Buckeyes.

In 2012, the Bill and Susan Lhota Office of Alumni Career Management opened its doors within the Longaberger Alumni House. The Lhotas had already been supporters of Ohio State’s College of Engineering and the Ross Heart Hospital when then-president and CEO of the alumni association Archie Griffin told them about alumni career services.

“To be able to help our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes well beyond our years was truly the meaning of paying forward,” Susan said. “If Bill were alive today, I think he would say that the number of alumni who have been helped has gone beyond our wildest imagination.”
